Most hotel sites lose the booking to the OTA they advertise on.

Hotels invest in OTA placement and lose 15–25% of revenue to commission. The path back is direct-booking — and most hotel sites are not designed to win it. Rate parity is not communicated

Direct rates are equal-or-better than OTAs. The site doesn't tell visitors that. Bookings flow to OTAs by default.
